At the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club, we take pride in being a vibrant sailing community located on the beautiful foreshore of McMillan Straits and Lake Victoria in Paynesville. Founded in 1937, our club has a rich history and a commitment to sailing that spans over 85 years. As a fully-volunteer club, we strive to create a welcoming environment for all who share a passion for sailing.

Facilities at Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club

Our facilities are designed with our members in mind. We boast a fully licensed bar and club rooms that offer stunning views of the lake. Enjoying a drink while watching the sunset is simply delightful. Additionally, our launching area features a ramp, crane, and mooring jetties, making it easy for you to access the water. For those looking for storage options, we provide wet berths, hardstands, and undercover boat storage to suit all needs.

Sailing Activities and Events

As one of the most active sailing clubs in country Victoria, the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club operates year-round. From October to May, we host our Sunday full fleet sailing events, where families can enjoy friendly competition. In addition to this, we run a winter series on Saturdays, held on the first Saturday of each month at 1300 hours.

For those who love competitive sailing, our Twilight Series takes place every Tuesday evening during daylight saving hours. This series culminates in a social meal at the club, welcoming sailors from all divisions. We also organise the Ancient Mariners Series, which occurs every Thursday or Friday, depending on the wind and weather conditions.

We warmly welcome visitors to our club. To sail with us, you need to be a member of a yacht club or register for a sail pass, which is available for free on our website. If you plan to race your own yacht, remember to bring proof of insurance.
